Serlby Park News Mini Olympics at All Saints’ Harworth On Monday 14th July, some Year 5 children organised and ran a mini-Olympics competition for children in Year 2. The Year 5 leaders created lesson plans, teaching aid cards, medals, flags and an Olympic torch to add to the fun. It was fantastic to see the leaders helping and encouraging the younger children and emphasising the point of ‘having a go’. All the children had a lot of fun and the leaders found out what it was like to teach children and the impact that they can have in the school. Click on Serlby Park Gallery to see photos. Matthew Osborne PLT Serlby Park News, 16th July 2008 Last week Matt Osborne, PLT at All Saints Harworth, used his Year 5 Young Leaders to organise and lead Y3 children in a Y3 hockey tournament. The Y5s were asked to run an event, not just refereeing, but also scoring, acting as press and photographers. At the end of the tournament the Y5s had to produce a newspaper for the school and the Y3 children to report back what happened in the tournament. The children displayed great leadership skills and fully enjoyed leading younger children within the school. They also got a sense of how difficult it is to run an event and how to officiate games. I have included some photos (See Serlby Park Gallery) and a copy of one of the newpapers that was produced.
Serlby Park News, 16th June 2008 More Fun and Games at Serlby Park! A hugely successful Multi Skills Festival was held at Serlby Park Secondary School on Thursday April 10th. It was an all day event with four primary schools from the Serlby Park family taking part. There were around 130 students who attended and had the opportunity to test their agility, balance and co-ordination skills. The students participated in both fun, non competitive activities and also in competitive tasks and games for those who love to win! Several students, teachers and helpers commented on how much they had enjoyed the day, so much so that the students didn’t want to stop for a drinks break! Thank you to all the teaching and support staff and the Young Leaders who all did a fantastic job of planning and delivering the activities. A great day was had by all! Serlby Park News, 21st May 2007 Pupils from All Saints' Harworth participated in a superb game. Everyone had a great time in an event that was well supported by parents. The game featured children who come to the basketball after-school club and who play in our team. There was also the first opportunity for the girls of the cheerleading group to do their first gig. The cheerleaders have been working hard at lunchtime preparing a routine. At half time there was a parent shoot out. At the end of the game there was a presentation of certificates and a most valuable player award.

Serlby Park News, 25th April 2007 Visit to watch Sheffield Sharks v London United On Friday 26th January 83 parents and children went to the English Institute of Sport at Sheffield to watch the Sheffield Sharks play London United at basketball. All the parents and children had a great time watching the sharks win very convincingly. Members of the sharks organisation were extremely appreciative at the number of people who attended the game. The school’s name was announced during the game and had a warm welcome by the crowd. Children were encouraged to take part in the shooting contested at half time. Mr Osborne fulfilled his dream of actually hitting a shot in front of the crowd but he failed to make it past the second round. At the end of the game children were allowed to go onto the court to get autographs from the players and head coach. It is hoped that the trip will make the children interested in sport and take the opportunities to take up a sport at All Saints’ school. Serlby Park News, 15th March 2007 YOUNG SPORTS LEADERS MAKE AN EXCELLENT START Young Sports Leaders from Misson and Saint Patricks primary schools made an excellent start to their careers as Sports Leaders. All pupils involved demonstrated superb leadership skills that are required to be a successful sports leader. The standards of focus, determination and imagination shown throughout the day were very impressive. Both schools have now gained 18 new sports leaders….. and several new games invented by the pupils (admittedly better than mine!!). The Young Leaders will be delivering these activities at lunchtimes to other pupils in their schools. Rob Underwood SSCO Serlby Park
