Elizabethan family news Spring Term 2008

We held three events last term.

A year 3/4 Basketball festival delivered by Steve Bell and several of our leaders.  Everton, Sutton, St Joseph’s, Sturton, Carr Hill and Ranby attended bringing 68 children.

A year 5/6 High 5 netball event St Joseph's Everton and Carr hill attended with 30 pupils.  This was a very cold day and we had to finish of inside so that the pupils did not freeze!

The highlight I think was a KS1 Dance session.  This was led by 20 of our dance leaders who came into school when we were on inset especially to lead the session.  We had Hallcroft, Carr Hill,  Sutton with 98 pupils.

We had a performance of their work at the end of the session and also some of the leaders performed some of their work to show the younger pupils.  A lovely occasion.

Jackie Barnett delivered a workshop of leadership training to a family group of dinner ladies to help them with activities at lunch time.

On Friday 26th January 64 Year 6 pupils from seven primaries gathered at Retford Sports Centre to commence a Young Leaders Award.  This  award will enable them to lead lunch time or playground activities with their peers or younger children.  These young leaders spent a whole day training to give them a taster of planning and organising sporting activities.  They developed their communication skills and confidence while delivering to a group of children.
As tutors we thoroughly enjoyed our day and were impressed by the qualities and skills of the students.
Each primary has been given £200 to help provide resources/eqipment for these young people to use during lunch time play.
