Bassetlaw pupils, Georgia Dent ( Holy Family School next yr Valley or Elizabethan) and Mhairi Macdonald (Portland School) competed in the LOULE CUP, the 4th international tournament for trampolining that has been held in Loule, Algarve, Portugal. They were part of the 32 strong team representing the East Midlands. Georgia, at just 10 yrs old, came joint 12th in the U13 girls out of 43 competitors. Mhairi came 15th out of 31 and they came 6th at Syncro Trampoline out of 13 teams.

We flew out on Wednesday night and stayed in some beautiful cottages called the Quintassential in Loule. Training began on Thursday morning followed by a few hours sunbathing and relaxing in the pool before going back to the evening training session. Friday morning we had to be up and at the competition by 8.15 am for team photos, and then competition began at 8.30 am. We only just missed out on the final for Saturday's event which was an excellent result as it was the girls' first international event.

We watched the amazing final and the standard was really high. Some of the teams that we competed against were the national teams from Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Scotland, England, Portugal, Spain, Majorca and many more.

We all went to the after show and party at which we were delighted to see the Europeans enjoying singing along to Abba on the karaoke!! We had to fly home Sunday morning.

It was fantastic and we would like to thank Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw, who gave us £200 to assist towards the cost for the girls to attend such an amazing experience.

Bondhay Golf Club has been awarded the prestigious GolfMark Award accreditation demonstrating their
hard work and dedication to both junior and beginner golf. There are just over 200 golf clubs in England with
the award, just 2 to date in Nottinghamshire and Bondhay being the ONLY club in Worksop to achieve
accreditation.

The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) developed the GolfMark Award
to identify and acknowledge golf clubs in England that are junior and beginner friendly and are proactive in
their attitude to golf development through the recruitment and retention of golfers.
The GolfMark accreditation also integrates Sport England’s ClubMark award, a generic national standard for
quality sports clubs recognised across the country.
More than 20 other sports, including tennis and rugby are also using the alliance to add value to their
accreditation schemes and over 5,000 sports clubs have been awarded ClubMark or are working towards it.
There are a number of benefits that golf clubs can gain by achieving GolfMark, including increasing
membership, raising the club’s profile in the local community, further development of coaches and
volunteers and greater access to funding.
GolfMark evaluates golf clubs on the following three areas within their junior section:
. Coaching & Playing
. Club Environment
. Child Welfare
EGU/EWGA Development Officers conduct assessment meetings, offering golf clubs advice & guidance on
how to further enhance their development initiatives such as Taster Days, recruitment & retention of
members as well as developing best practices and sharing schemes that have been successful within other
golf clubs.
‘’ Bondhay Golf Club are a shining example of a club that gives juniors a fantastic opportunity to play golf.
They offer a well structured coaching & competitive programme, the children are made welcome by the
membership and the management of the club are fully supportive of the junior section. I will be watching
with interest to see how the club builds on this award in the future.’’ Richard Brown, Regional Development
Officer EGU/EWGA.
