CRICKET AT TUXFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL

BY THE YOUNG CRICKETERS

Tuxford Primary School

This term we have been lucky enough to have a cricket coach come into our school to teach us some valuable cricket skills: bowling, batting, throwing, catching and fielding. We have also had an after school club for this sport. Jenny Gunn, an England cricketer, also came into school. She showed us some of her cricket skills, they were amazing! Each week we played lots of games such as Marathon cricket, 2, 5, 10 and Clap Catch.

TUXFORD FAMILY GYMNASTICS FESTIVAL

BY THE PUPILS OF QUEEN ELEANOR SCHOOL

Hello! We are the year 1 and 2 children from Queen Eleanor School. In March we took part in a gymnastics festival at the Tuxford school. In our P.E. lessons we had learnt different gymnastic shapes such as straddles, front and back supports, pike, arch and dish. We also learnt to ‘teddy bear roll’-very tricky but amusing! We all had to remember to point our toes and we practised jumping and landing positions.

At the festival we performed our own routines on a bench in front of another school. The Tuxford leaders gave us marks for good shapes and balances and the children that were watching told us things they really liked about our routines. Then we watched them.

We also performed our floor sequence to the other school. It was really good to watch children from other schools, we loved learning and practising the shapes and walking, jumping and moving like a real gymnast!

St Giles organised a Fancy dress ‘Fun run / walk’ and Boccia sportathon. The whole school participated and raised a little over £700. It was a lovely sunny day which helped put smiles on faces and some of our pupils really put in the extra mile, they were a credit to us all. Thank you to all who sponsored a walker, runner and player.

St Giles school were encouraged to put a group together from the work they had done with funding from Adele during the Autumn term. Our ‘crew’ were enthused and very keen to perform for a wider audience. They chose the music and had a massive imput into the building of the routine. They coped fantastically well with the changes and pressures putting together a fluent and professional street dance routine. Well done to you all.
