Mini Olympics at All Saints’ Harworth

On Monday 14th July, some Year 5 children organised and ran a mini-Olympics competition for children in Year 2. The Year 5 leaders created lesson plans, teaching aid cards, medals, flags and an Olympic torch to add to the fun. It was fantastic to see the leaders helping and encouraging the younger children and emphasising the point of ‘having a go’. All the children had a lot of fun and the leaders found out what it was like to teach children and the impact that they can have in the school.

Boccia - A Paralympic Sport

Boccia is a Paralympic sport for people with severe physical impairments, predominantly Cerebral Palsy, however anyone with a disability can compete to a national level. It is like French Boules and is played in the seated position on a court similar in size to a badminton court.  The Youth Games final is open to anyone with each team having at least one person with a disability playing on court. Alex Thornhill, Jordan Beard, Rebecca Merills and Courtney Hudson all represented the Bassetlaw District in the Nottinghamshire Youth Games. It was held at the Harvey Hadden Sports Complex on Wednesday July 2nd. Each team member showed tremendous battling qualities and gave a good performance. Team Captain Alex Thornhill lead his team to a sixth place finish. A big well done for getting so far!
