June 2008
Last week Matt Osborne, PLT at All Saints Harworth, used his Year 5 Young Leaders to organise and  lead Y3 children in a Y3 hockey tournament. The Y5s were asked to run an event, not just refereeing, but also scoring, acting as press and photographers. At the end of the tournament the Y5s had to produce a newspaper for the school and the Y3 children to report back what happened in the tournament. The children displayed great leadership skills and fully enjoyed leading younger children within the school. They also got a sense of how difficult it is to run an event and how to officiate games. I have included some photos (See Serlby Park Gallery) and a copy of one of the newpapers that was produced.

Bassetlaw School Sports Partnership Track and Field Athletics Championships 2008

This extremely successful event was held on Friday 16th May at Mount St. Mary’s Stadium, Spinkhill, Derbyshire. It is a superb venue where all participants enjoyed visiting and competing. Elizabethan, Portland, Retford Oaks, Serlby Park, Valley and Tuxford schools all attended and were each represented by a team made up of pupils from different year groups.

Tuxford won the junior boys, junior girls and intermediate boys categories. Portland won the intermediate girls category and the overall winners on the day were Tuxford. A big well done to them for a fantastic team performance! All competitors gave 100% and every event was fiercely contested!

Thank you to everyone who took part and to all the event organisers who made sure that the event ran smoothly.
